The Kershaw Knives was established by knife salesman, Pete Kershaw.  That was after leaving Gerber Legendary Blades because Kershaw wanted to institute his own cutlery company following his own designs and was determined to make high quality knives that are guaranteed to last.  True enough, in 1974, Kershaw opened for business in Lake Oswego, Oregon.  Kershaw is currently owned as subsidiary of the Japanese KAI Group.

From the time it had manufactured its first designs, the people behind this cutlery company did not rest on their laurels.  In the early 1980s, they continued to expand – in their wide array of knives such as pocket knives and introduced the new Floating Fish Fillet knives.  More so, it is also during this era that they expanded their market reaching Europe through KAI Cutlery Europe.

Until the 1990s, Kershaw knives continued its legacy of manufacturing and launching new product lines from Kershaw folding knives, to Kershaw hunting knives among others.  In the late 1990s, the company introduced the first Ken Onion designs, those with SpeedSafe technology.

Ken Onion, if you do not know, is a very well known Kershaw designer who designed numerous of the best-selling collectible knives there are.  His creations had won awards for Kershaw and to mention a few, they were the “Overall Knife of the Year”, “American Made Knife of the Year”, and “International Knife Award”.

Now that should convince you that Kershaw knives are only made by the best.  But actually, there are still more to go, so read on!

Kershaw with Onion’s distinct talent in designing knives have thought of the SpeedSafe technology that assists the user to open a knife smoothly with a manual push on the thumb of the blade. Most early knives made by Kershaw with the SpeedSafe opening systems are also those that won awards for the company.

As the years passed, Kershaw still kept garnering honors for their high quality products.  In May 2005, one cutlery company won four awards including Most Innovative American Design and Overall Knife of the Year at the Blade Show in Atlanta, Georgia.

This had never happened before in the show.  And the company? No less than the Kershaw Knives.  In the same show in June 2007, the model 1850 Tyrade by Kershaw won the “Overall Knife of the Year” award.

All these only prove that Kershaw is not only claiming to be offering premium knives.  Erase your doubts and make the most of your money.  You will see for your self that the Kershaw creations are worth in your knife collecting hobby.
