Karambits: Famous & original collectible knives with an epic to tell
|
|
Here are knives of character and incredible history, they are quite epical themselves.
Do karambit knives ever ring a bell to you? Expectedly, your answer would always be either a yes or a no, no more other choices actually. Whichever it is, the karambit story is worth the read anyway. It does not only speak of knife-making, collecting, or knowing about knives per se, it also speaks of a legend and a culture that natives behold and outsiders are interested about – knife collectors and non-knife collectors alike. Besides, from the sound of it, you could judge karambit as exotic.

The karambit knife is one of the most famous collectible knives. It is an unusually curve with a shape like that of a claw. Because essentially, it is patterned after a tiger’s claw. The mother knife of karambit knives, “Kuku Macan”, literally means “tiger claw” in Indonesia. Kuku Macan, however, was a larger version and is primarily for the battle field. Such name came from the belief in the Indonesian chronicle that an ancient kingdom revered great tigers. They used to believe that their kings’ spirits will go to the jungles and become spirits of the tiger.
This historical knife is yet another breakthrough from the Asian Islands. Believed to be originating long long time ago in Indonesian, Malaysian, and Philippine archipelagos, this kind of knife are known to be the utility pocket knives of the early natives for ordinary household jobs, field work, cutting foods among others. And just like many other knives of both the old and new eras, the karambit knives were used as a tool though less as a weapon.

Though the history of the karambit knife can be traced way back, it continues its legacy today and not only as a tool as the aborigines used to make use of the knives, but also for self-defense if the situation calls for it. As a matter of fact, a kind of martial arts in Indonesia called Pencak Silat uses specifically this knife in their training.
Then again, it has more or less the same uses such ordinary cutting of rope or twine and the likes. With its new and more modern look and with features that will fit the demands of an everyday adventure; this will surely fit a person who is always on-the-go.
One very distinctive feature of the karambit knives is the finger loop. If you think this is only for the purpose of looking unique, then think again. More than its physical impression, it is also made for safety purposes so that the knife would not easily slip from your hand when you are using it. With that, you know you are cutting the rope and not your foot when the knife falls. You wouldn’t want your poor feet to get bloody, for sure. That’s fashion with a purpose. By the way, have you imagined a karambit folder? Well, they are now available in the market. Innovation is always at work at these times.
Karambit knives are truly useful and being handy at that, you can only be happy about having your own of this spectacular pocket knife. And while doing some opening of packages through your karambit, you can look at it and remember how it evolved from the ancient times until they reached your hands. No wonder it is one of the most famous collectible knives.
